Martin Buckland: Chair of the Academy Committee
Martin has been a Governor at Furzefield for a number of years and was Chair of the Governing Body from 2021 until the school joined LEO in May 2025. Martin now chairs the local governance committee at Furzefield. Martin is a lawyer by training specialising in employee relations and acts as an HR & Employment Consultant for businesses across the country. Martin is married with 2 boys (both of whom attended Furzefield) and is 'Akela' at his local Cub Pack. Volunteering is important to him but in his down-time Martin enjoys spending time with his family including his dog, Jasper, a Hungarian Vizsla.

Deborah Skelton: Parent Academy Committee Member
I live in Merstham and have three young children at Furzefield Primary Academy, where I have been a school governor since March 2022. I am currently the English link governor and the governor responsible for monitoring SEND provision in the school. I value this opportunity to support the school community and contribute to its development and success.
Professionally, I am a Speech and Language Therapist with experience of working in the education sector in a range of state and independent schools, both mainstream and specialist. I am also a member of a local church which has links with schools in the area and provides hospitality to vulnerable people. In my free time I like to read, swim and be in the garden.
Kathryn Cole: Co-opted Academy Committee Member
I am a dedicated Deputy Headteacher with over eight years of experience at Merstham Park School, Furzefield's local secondary school. My areas of expertise include curriculum design, data analysis, timetabling, and the development of effective pedagogy and practice. I am passionate about driving school improvement and supporting staff development. In addition to my leadership role, I have served as a governor at Furzefield School for the past two and a half years, contributing strategic insight and educational expertise.

Joanna Bishop: Parent Academy Committee Member
As a parent of two girls at Furzefield Primary School it was a real honour to be appointed as a parent governor in November 2024. I see it as both a privilege and a responsibility to be able to have an input in shaping the direction of the school and driving an improvement in standards - for the good of the whole school community.
As well as the full-time job of looking after my family, I also support vulnerable families through the charity Homestart, I practise my barista skills at our church cafe, and I do one day a week of physiotherapy at a Neuro Therapy Centre. If I ever have any spare time I love to read, bake and potter in the garden.
